The Acid/base properties of any aqueous sample can be determined by potentiometric titrations. In this laboratory, students learn how to conduct a potentiometric titration on prepared solutions as well as natural water samples. This experiment focuses on:
- The operation of a computerized titration unit
- The principles of pH measurement in natural waters
- The calibration of a glass electrode by means of an acid titration
- The interpretation of potentiometric data using Gran's functions [F1 and F2 ] to determine equivalent volumes and acid/base equilibrium constants.
- The application window of potentiometric for determining acib/base properties of dissolved organic matter
