Shannon Ciston

s-ciston@northwestern.edu

PhD candidate, Chemical and Biological Engineering

Shannon Ciston works on the application of titanium dioxide for the prevention of fouling on ceramic drinking water filters. She is currently testing various combinations of ceramic ultra- and microfilters coated with TiO2 synthesized both commercially and in-house. Shannon loves lab work, including using microscopes of all kinds and trouble-shooting analytical equipment, and issues of sustainable energy production and the protection of natural aquatic systems are dear to her. She has a strong interest in pursuing a career in academia, possibly teaching environmental chemistry. Shannon joined the Gray group in the fall of 2004, after having graduated from the Illinois Institute of Technology with a B.S. in Chemical Engineering. She is proud to be from Pittsburgh, PA.
