Post-doctoral Fellow,
Institute for Catalysis in Energy Processes
Gonghu was born in
Hubei
province,
China
,
where he got his bachelor's and master's degrees both in Chemistry. From 2000
to 2005, he was working towards his Ph.D. with Professor Vicki Grassian and Professor Sarah Larsen at the University of Iowa. His doctoral research
focused on using nanocrystallinezeolite materials for environmental applications, including the selective catalytic
reduction of NOX (J. Catal. 2005, 234,
401; Catal. Lett. 2005, 103,
23).
Gonghu joined the Gray Research Group in
2005 as a postdoctoral fellow. Since then he has been working on a joint
project supported by the Institute
for Catalysis in Energy Processes at
Northwestern
University
and Argonne National Laboratory. His current research involves developing mixed
phase TiO2nanocomposite materials as
highly active photocatalysts. In addition, he uses
EPR spectroscopy to study the dynamics of photogenerated electrons in TiO2nanocomposites.
Potential applications of his nanocomposite materials
include photoreduction of CO2 to fuels
such as CH4 and CH3OH.
