Ablation Till or Ground Moraine

Thumbnail 1 shows the hummochy topography and derranged drainage associated with ablation till ( or ground moraine) that is deposited by during rapid melting of retreating glacial ice. Soils are generally heterogeneous but tend to be sands and gravels. Thumbnail 2, down straem of 1, is an outwash plain formed by granular material transported by the melt water from the ablation zone. These soils are also granular with more of the fine fraction winnowed out during water transport
