Curriculum Vitae

Education

C.E., Czech Technical University, Prague, 1956
C.Sc., Czechoslovak Academy of Sciences, 1964
Ph.D., Brown University, 1969

Research

Professor Dvorak's research is concerned with micromechanics of heterogeneous solids, composite materials and structures, subjected to mechanical loads and phase transformations induced by thermal or inelastic deformation, damage, and other physically based and equivalent eigenstrains. Past experimental and theoretical research focused on plasticity, fracture and fatigue of fibrous metal matrix composites. More recent work has been on optimized fiber prestress in laminated shells and plates, and on improvement of damage resistance of sandwich plates subjected to impact and impulse or blast loads. Professor Dvorak's work had been supported by the Air Force Office of Scientific Research, Army Research Office, Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency, National Science Foundation, Office of Naval Research, and numerous industries. He was Program Director of the DARPA/ONR URI project on Mechanism-Based Design of High Temperature Composite Structures at RPI in 1988-1997.
