Research
Professor Lewis' research includes: the physics and chemistry of geomaterials; surface reactions on colloids in the environment; reactions and transport of radium, radon, and other radionuclides in soil, water, and vegetation; incorporation of fine-grained waste in concrete; soil chemistry and physics applied to waste disposal, seepage from waste disposal sites, and the reclamation of surface-mined land; soil-vegetation-environmental contaminant interactions; soil decontamination; environmental impact evaluation and methods for impact prediction; plant physiology and biochemistry in response to environmental contaminants and environmental change; fate, kinetics, and transport of nutrients and contaminants in wetlands.
