Mission
We empower our students to gain technical, design, and management skills needed for leadership. We emphasize fundamental principles and design methods that apply to many career paths. We conduct research that advances our ability to:
- Plan, design, construct, and operate society's infrastructure
- Design and control behavior of materials
- Sustain natural and engineered environmental systems. We achieve this through basic and applied projects in which students and faculty work together in cutting-edge facilities
This mission statement was adopted by CEE faculty November 2002.
Vision
By taking full advantage of our medium size, numerous multidisciplinary research projects, and close faculty/student interactions, the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CEE) provides a distinctive, internationally recognized learning experience. Our students become leaders in education, industry, and government. Our research deepens the understanding of the underlying science and engineering practice of building and managing an efficient, safe, healthy and sustainable infrastructure and environment, especially in urban areas.
